Reduce Dependency on Global Variables

Global variables, while accessible from anywhere in the code, can become a double-edged sword when used excessively.

Relying heavily on global variables can complicate code readability, hinder debugging efforts, and make code maintenance a daunting task.

In this article, we’ll explore the drawbacks of overusing global variables and highlight the advantages of using function parameters and return values to pass information between different parts of the code.

Let’s dive in!

In the end of October, I wrote an article publicly declaring that I will start a new 30 day challenge of journaling every single day. Fortunately, it went really well. I journaled every single day for a month and now I am planning to continue this habit of journaling. Here I am going to tell you how did I manage to pull this off on a regular basis.

This is my second 30 day challenge that I announced publicly in my blog. Previously, during the first half of this year, I wrote that I wanted to do a workout session every day for a month, but I was not consistent during that time. After learning a few lessons the hard way going through my previous challenge, I decided to implement them during this new one. Continue reading

30 Day Challenge: Journaling

Journaling can help an individual record the events that have happened in life, collect ideas, solve problems and make decisions. It has been mentioned repeatedly from a lot of authors of self-help books and articles as a very powerful tool for one’s change. One great article that I have read today has made me consider to make journaling as a daily routine. To help me with that, I am starting a new 30 day challenge, starting from tomorrow. 5 myths and misunderstandings about learning

Scott Young is a writer of a few books that are mostly about learning more and productivity. He is probably famous especially for his astonishing project of finishing a four year MIT Computer Science curriculum in one year learning on his own without being at MIT. He writes in a blog mostly about ways of learning more and better.  A couple of weeks ago, Scott Young held a webinar about the myths and misconceptions that people have about learning well. The webinar was not intended to be recorded, so I had to wake up at 2:30 am to watch it because of the time zone differences, but I consider it totally worth my time and effort. In this article, you can find some notes that I took while attending the webinar, hoping that they may be beneficial for you. Continue reading

Lessons from my 30 Day Challenge: Exercising everyday

About a month ago, for the first time in my life, I decided to publicly declare e 30 day challenge that I was trying to set for myself. It was about exercising every single day, without excuses. I decided to do this challenge because I had the desire to exercise and knew that it is very helpful for our bodies and brains to exercise on a regular basis. I had been procrastinating and delaying working out for years, even though I knew that I needed to exercise. When a time comes that you do something you had long ago aspired to do, then you can see how many benefits you have already wasted.

I can say that I was not very consistent with my dedication of working every single day, because most of the time I forgot. I did not put any reminder besides publishing a post in my blog, which was not sufficient for me to recall every single day that I had to work out. I sometimes found myself lying in bed in the evening, only to remember that I had not exercised that day. However, I am glad I started this experiment because, besides starting working out at a local fitness gym where a very good friend of mine works as a trainer, I learned a few lessons and tips that I would like to tell you about.   Continue reading

30 Day Challenge: Exercising everyday

Workout

One new habit that I want to implement in my daily routines is to exercise regularly. I know that it is very important to workout, but I have been constantly skipping physical exercises. Usually, I had different things to do, and exercising simply was not something that I had in the list of my priorities. I believe I could most definitely find a free spot in my agenda for it, even though I had a lot of things to do. Starting from tomorrow, I want to try a 30 day challenge: Exercising every single day for at least 7 minutes period on a daily basis.

“I am ready to give up when I haven’t even started”

don__t_give_upToday I read a post from a reddit user, who was in a depressed mood I guess, because he has been trying to do a midterm project, but he couldn’t finish it, and, even though he had been trying, he wasn’t able to achieve it. He had almost completed it, but because a method was unreachable, the game that he intended to do was not ready yet. He tried to contact with teaching assistants from his university, but they didn’t even try to help him and, because he is busy working, he cannot go to his professor’s office hours. Because most of his class mates have been accomplishing this assignment without a problem, he started to think that he is not meant to be a programmer. Continue reading
