shutter-focusThere are just a lot of things that you have to do and there does not seem to be available time to finish everything. Whenever you finish something, other things simply show up and this iteration keeps repeating endlessly. You are simply forced to choose a few things from an infinite list that are waiting and attracting your attention.

Maybe you have to work on a project and all of a sudden, a new notification comes into your phone that grabs you a lot of attention and that causes you to go to your laptop and respond to a long email that you have just received. Or maybe, you are writing a work report and a friend has invited you to go out for dinner and he is going to another country tomorrow morning. Maybe you have planned to go to your local fitness gym and commit to have a better health, but you simply waste countless hours watching TV immediately when you get back from work.

These and other similar examples can be not too far from the reality in which we live our lives. We are simply going back and forth from one type of action to another one, without having a purpose and an intention. These are not only affecting the quality of the results of our work, but are also causing a lot of stress and anxiety to ourselves, because we simply seem to be engaged in so many different activities, that simply might not even be valuable and important at all. Rather than that, they seem to be simply mere excuses of simply avoiding the uncomfortable situations that are afraid to face.

As a result, the things that we choose to do, those few ones from that long list that is bringing us a lot of stress each time we think about it, are going to produce the results which represent our lives. There are simply so many things that you could be doing right now, instead of reading this article. This alone should serve as a reminder about the importance of choosing wisely.

Choose those few, but critical things that are valuable and important to you and commit doing them, rather than switching back and forth from one trivial task to another one that does not matter to you at all. Choose those tasks wisely and eliminate anything or at least try to radically reduce other things. Do not be merciful about cutting off things that do not produce the results that you want to accomplish. Life is short in engaging into them. Rather than that, you should pay attention to a few things and be very good at them.

“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.” – Steve Jobs
