There a lot of blogs and books of different people that might proclaim to be a very reliable resource of self-improvement. By self-improvement type of blogs, I mean all blogs that are meant to give suggestions about ways of being a better person. Among other things, a person who is very compelled to read such contents might get the initial impression that self-improvement can become an obstacle of a collective group of people, because it simply installs make an individual to be self-centered. Although, this might be the case and that might even be the intention of some writers, but I disagree that it has to be that way.

At the very least, each person can understand different things in their own ways. Knowing that, I think we should consider a person responsible for what he has written, but not what his readers have understood about it. Having said that, I think that self-improvement might not be a barrier for social relationships and the possession of a more collective type of orientation. Being self-centered can be as a source of some individual cases, where one might be trying to improve himself simply because he wants to attract the others and also give impressive impressions. In other words, these cases might simply use self-improvement as a means of having the most attention in the crowds of people that he spends his time at.

I do believe that self-improvement can be a very helpful means of improving an individual as a whole, by giving him advice and actionable steps that one can take to improve the quality of his life. Doing that, thus inevitably yields to more fulfillment for an individual who can also become a more valuable asset for the society in which he lives in. Being depressed, stressed out and anxious by not having work discipline, lack of clarity of the goals that might be a regular part of someone’s lives are nothing short of a depletion of the relationship that might be for him. As a result, he might even hesitate to help others, as he might be less confident about his own capabilities.

On the other hand, trying to improve yourself with the intention of being a better employee, family member or friend are substantial steps that one can get to improve the relationships that he might have with the others. Being a better family member by trying to help others solve their problems by implementing the advice that you have read and applied it yourself can be one way. Having more dedication and a better work discipline at your work can help the company in which you are employed at. Being a better friend by having better ways of communication can impact the way other people might feel when they are interacting with you. Thus you are a better employee, a better family member, and a better friend.

Nonetheless, it might be that one person who is working most of the time in himself, by trying to improve his or her skills for the time being can intend to be more valuable for the society in which he lives. We can take Bill Gates as an example, who after founding Microsoft and getting a sufficient capital has started his own philanthropic projects.

In conclusion, I can reassure you that self-improvement can be simply considered as a preoccupation of someone who is trying to better themselves by implementing proven things. However, that does not mean that that person is solely focusing on himself. He might have a broader vision in the future, which might result in considerable impacts in the society in which he lives in and all what we might be seeing right now can be simply a few pieces of a large puzzle.
