Even the most productive people that seem to accomplish a lot have their own struggles of working on their tasks. It might sound a bit surprising, however these people simply find ways of dealing with these inner battles and get their job done. They do not see motivation as a prerequisite to start working. They are aware of the initial resistance that comes along them each time they want to go to the gym, or start typing the report letter. Despite that, they still are effective and get the work done, without being victims of excuses.

They have figured out that the initial resistance that usually is a kind of irrational fear that frightens them to start working fades out as the first couple of minutes pass by. After they start to work, a momentum is created that pushes them forward to continue working. That initial resistance is no longer present. They do not want to quit working right now.

They have also come across the insight that you do not have to possess the motivation to work each time. It is natural that different subjective factors can prevent you from having the motivation to work, despite doing the job you love and being in a wonderful environment. We are human beings and we are constantly changing from one state to another. Being always motivated is not possible. If you are waiting for a perfect moment to start working on the task that is waiting for you a couple of weeks now, thinking that you will simply be in a better mood, you are wasting a lot of time. Rather than deluding yourself, it is better to try form habits of starting to work on the tasks that you are supposed to work and enjoy the results of it. Overcome the initial resistance by reminding yourself that you simply need to create a momentum in the beginning which will help keep the ball rolling.

I have written in the past about a productivity technique of telling yourself that you will simply work for 2 minutes and after which you usually find yourself having the motivation to continue working on the task at hand. However, we usually need gentle reminders from which we can benefit from.
