Your brain is a really great asset that you poses and it is of a crucial importance if you are able to enhance your mental performance. Distractions and notifications are all around the place, pulling your attention towards them and thus, making it hardly possible for your to focus on things that really do make a difference in the quality of your life.

A great idea might pop up in your head, yet you trust your brain that you will remember it and then regret of not writing it in a trusted system that would make it really easy for you to recall it later. A lot of people might have great ideas, but if they do not act upon them, they might be grouped in the same category as those that do not have these kinds of ideas at all. Having a system that will help you remind things, such as appointments, or tasks can make it a bit hard for you to be effective and can prevent you from focusing.

Your head is not designed for holding ideas. It’s designed for having ideas.” – David Allen

If you are in that type of situation and want to change it, I would recommend you to use a reminder, as it is very simple and helpful, because you only need to set it once and then benefit from its results later. I personally like using Evernote as a tool of taking notes and also creating reminders about the things that need my attention later on, but that do not necessarily have to constantly keep bothering me. Creating a reminder helps me feel better, because I no longer have an urge nor a tendency to keep repeating it constantly in my head.

After setting reminders, you are not just allowing yourself to stay more calm and relaxed, knowing that reminders will do the job for you, but you will also be more effective, as you are not forgetting ideas that might be worth acting upon.
