I read a post on Facebook, someone mentioned that he used to have a big goal that seemed like a lifetime achievement that he used to try to achieve, yet never took any action to do something in this regard. After breaking it into smaller pieces, he had made huge progress towards accomplishing it. He used a way of describing that initial goal which made me write this article.

He said that his initial goal seemed too far away, one that he did not even believe that will ever be able to reach, and this way he did not do anything in this regard. He might have been afraid of taking action, as it seemed as a waste of time and effort, because he did not have the certainty nor the belief that he has the means to accomplish it.

When you read this, you might start to think that it is reasonable to do what he did, to break a certain goal that you want to accomplish, which is really important, yet you aren’t even taking the slightest piece of action towards reaching it. You are afraid to take action, because you don’t want to look like a failure in front of the others, as you are expecting to fail. When you do not take any action, your goals are like dreams that you might have had when you were young.

Because you are still reading this article, chances are that you have found it interesting and you might be in need to find a solution about it, or somebody that you know. My recommendation for you would be to replicate the strategy that that person used for his own goal.

If you have a very important goal to accomplish and find yourself constantly avoiding taking action towards it, ask yourself whether that goal seems too far away that you are tired of walking or running towards it. If it is too far away, then try to bring it closer to you by breaking it down into smaller chunks, which are easier to reach. After you have reached one milestone, you might then set another one.

Taking action inspires further action. Do not let the fear of the unknown about the long road toward your goals prevent you from taking action. Set milestones towards it and take action accomplishing these milestones and use the big goal as an orientation. Chances are that you are going to make a lot more progress towards your goal this way then just stagnantly staring at it.
