Nelson DellisTwo weeks ago I wrote an article about the ways that can help you remember more of the things that you have or want to by getting these tips directly from the people that are very good at remembering different things. One of them, specifically, Nelson Dellis said in the same interview, that was mentioned in that article, four tips that can help your brain and your mental capacity against the impact of getting old.

1. Keep your brain active

This sounds a bit like a cliché, but there are very rare cases were you see people practicing it. If you want to keep your brain active, you should try to stimulate it into action and engage it in different activities, such as remembering things, numbers, grocery lists, or learning a new skill. You are never too old to learn, so it might be really effective for you to try and learn new things even when the odds are against you (i.e. people’s expectations of you and the mentality that when you get older, you are closer to death).

2. Workout

If it is not sufficient for you that this advice comes from a grandmaster of memory, who tries different things based on numerous research findings, then you might want to also take a look at this article. Working out does not simply help your brain, but it also gives you more energy and better feelings that can increase the quality of your life. Even if you are old and do not think that you can lift heavy-weights, a long walk along your nearest park might be welcomed by your body.

3. Be social

Another neglected thing that can improve your brain health is being social. Dellis mentions this method as a manner of avoiding solitude and actually engaging in different social activities that can improve your mood. When you have somebody staying near you and can have a face-to-face conversation, chances are that you might not just learn a lot, but you can also feel better and happier. You would not want to live in a big island only by yourself, even if you were chosen as the emperor of it.

4. Keep a healthy diet

Food is a very important aspect in this regard, and usually an underestimated one. You should be more careful about what you are eating, because you might not just get fat, but you can even prevent your brain from working to its full potential. Try to read about the kinds of food that you should eat during your meals and apply the advice that nutritional instructors recommend.

This list might give you the impression that you already knew all of these things, but it is highly likely that though you knew them, you were not practicing them. At least, not consciously. When you hear that these tips are being given from a person who is consistently engaged in increasing its mental capacity and reaching his peak performance, you might become more certain of their effectiveness. Because of the kind of profession in which he is engaged in, he might be switching to different approaches and things that can help him, nonetheless these advice might be applicable and helpful to all of us.
